# PawBack > Privacy-first smart pet ID tag with QR code and NFC chip. Anyone who finds a lost pet can tap their phone against the tag to see the pet's profile and message the owner directly. No app for the finder. No subscription. €9.99 one-time, made and shipped from Düsseldorf, Germany. ## How PawBack works PawBack is a small physical tag (28mm disc) with a printed QR code and an embedded NFC chip. The chip and QR both encode a URL like `https://www.pawback.pet/T/{tag_id}` (where `{tag_id}` is a 6-character A-Z0-9 code unique to each tag). When a stranger finds a lost pet wearing a PawBack tag: 1. They hold their phone near the tag (NFC) or scan the QR code with any phone's camera. 2. The browser opens to that pet's public profile page, showing the pet's photo, name, breed, medical notes, friendly-with notes, and an in-page contact form. 3. The finder can submit a message (with optional location and their phone number). The owner is notified instantly via push notification, email, and (with Premium) SMS. 4. The finder never needs to download an app or create an account. ## Key product facts - **Price:** €9.99 one-time, no subscription. Require charging. Tractive and similar charge €5-10/month. PawBack solves a different problem — it helps a stranger return your pet, doesn't track location. - **Engraved metal tags:** Cheap and reliable, but they expose the owner's phone number to anyone who picks the tag up. PawBack hides the owner's contact details until they choose to share them with a specific finder. - **App-locked smart tags:** Some competing smart tags require a specific brand app and recurring subscription. PawBack works with any phone's browser and never requires the finder to install anything. ## Honest limitations - PawBack is not a tracker. It only helps once a person has physically found and engaged with the pet. If your dog has bolted and is still running, GPS is more useful. - PawBack requires the finder to have mobile data when they scan the tag (the profile lives online). 99%+ of phones in Europe have data, but offline scenarios won't work. - Currently shipping to EU 27 only. UK, US, CA, AU, CH, etc. are not yet supported. ## Contact - Email: support@pawback.pet - Website: https://www.pawback.pet - Made in Düsseldorf, Germany --- *This file follows the [llms.txt](https://llmstxt.org) convention to help AI assistants and search engines accurately summarise PawBack.*
